TOKYO Nissan announced on Wednesday that it is adding Google Maps, which provides high-resolution satellite maps, to its Carwings navigation system in Japan. The service will use Google Maps' new feature, a "car navigation link" that allows the forwarding of searched geographic information to navigation systems in a manner that is similar to what it does for e-mail and cell phones.
Thus far, the hookup with Google Maps is limited to the automaker's home turf.
Nissan said users can now send locations found on Google Maps directly to their vehicle's onboard navigation system. Carwings synchronizes data with Google Maps, which Nissan said adds "convenience."
