HOT STUFF: The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X MR is an uprated version of the 206kW Lancer Evo X GSR.
Mitsubishi has announced details of the 2008 Lancer Evolution X MR, an even hotter version of the Evolution X GSR that's scheduled for SA release in mid-2008 and the latest in a model line that began 16 years ago.
The MR (Mitsubishi Racing), due in US showrooms in June 2008, has been upgraded by 15kW to 226kW, and has an uprated, six-speed dual-clutch, semi-automatic transmission.
It's not as powerful as the UK-spec FQ-330 (245kW) and FQ-360 (268kW) but is the most powerful semi-automatic Evo X available.
The rear suspension has been stiffened for sharper handling and there are extra vents and air intakes at the front to improve cooling
'The MR is a more viable option for everyday driving'.
It will sell in the US for $38 290 (about R302 000) or for $40 840 (R316 500) with an optional technology package that includes a 30GB hard-drive navigation system with music server, 650W Rockford-Fosgate premium sound system, pre-paid Sirius Satellite Radio capability and Fast Key entry, which allows passive vehicle unlocking and engine start/stop simply by carrying the remote control.
Mitsubishi North America marketing manager Dan Kuhnert said: "The introduction of the 2008 Lancer Evolution MR with dual-clutch transmission gives us an opportunity to expand the existing Evolution customer base.
"Its added capability and functionality makes it a more viable option for everyday driving, while maintaining the rally-inspired heritage that has made the series a global performance-car icon
'The Evo X drives like nothing else in the world'."
We're waiting for a reply from Mitsubishi SA as to whether and when the Lancer Evo X MR will be released in South Africa.
