Magna International Inc. has overtaken Delphi Corp. to become the largest automotive supplier in North America by sales turnover, according to Automotive News.
The Canadian company thus becomes the first company based outside the US to be the American continent's top supplier. Four other suppliers based outside the US have also displaced US-based rivals, placing non-US suppliers in half of the top 10 spots. Ten years ago, only two non-US suppliers were in the top 10.
Automotive News ranking was based on 2007 sales of OE parts to manufacturers and other suppliers in North America.
