K.K. Swamy quits Toyota Kirloskar; may join VW
The man who hand held the launch of Toyota Motor Corporation in India and became its public face, the Deputy Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Company, Mr K.K. Swamy, has resigned.

The resignation comes at a time when the company has announced its plans to launch a small car in India with an investment of $350 million.

Mr Swamy is expected to join Volkswagen as its Managing Director for its operations in India, sources close to the development told Business Line. An internal note circulated among the employees of Toyota Kirloskar said Mr Swamys resignation had been accepted and he was leaving the company for better prospects. An official with the company confirmed the resignation of Mr Swamy.

Mr Swamy was one of the first employees of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Corporation when the joint venture was launched nearly 10 years ago. He was instrumental in launching the highly successful multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), Qualis, which was later replaced with another MPV, Innova.

Sources also said that Toyota Kirloskar has during the last 12 months witnessed some high-level exits including some senior general managers who have shifted to auto giants such as General Motors, Ford, Volkswagen and Mahindra & Mahindra.

Mr Swamys role in the company had undergone a change sometime ago and he was till his resignation, in charge of corporate planning, administration, finance and information technology. Till his portfolio was changed, he was also in charge of marketing and sales.
