A driver whose car caught fire in Essex was astonished to see a 60 year-old fire engine stop and put it out.
The museum-piece tender was built in 1937 and hails from Stockholm, Sweden.
The Swedish crew were in the UK with the vehicle to take part in the London to Brighton classic HGV run.
A car was already aflame on the A12 in Essex, when the red-liveried tender was passing.
The rally team stopped and leapt into action using dry powder extinguishers, before the conventional emergency services could respond.
Mr Calvin Goody of Essex Fire Service was quoted as saying "I can't imagine what the driver of the car thought when that fire engine turned up."
