MONTVALE, New Jersey The 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class will make its film debut in Sex and the City on May 30. The movie appearance may further elevate the profile of the compact SUV, much as Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte helped to popularize such items as Manolo Blahnik shoes and the Flirtini cocktail.
Mercedes-Benz on Friday said its flagship S-Class sedan will also have a role in the film. The automaker is planning to launch a special micro site, www.mbusa.com/sexandthecity, in advance of the movie's debut.
The new GLK-Class, which made its official debut last month at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show, goes on sale in the U.S. in January.
"The Mercedes-Benz brand has always attracted trendsetters and stylemakers, and the partnership with New Line Cinema's Sex and the City, which personifies these attributes, is a very natural fit," said Steve Cannon, Mercedes-Benz USA vice president of marketing. "[It] perfectly positions the new GLK-Class before it arrives in showrooms."
