The bulk of the insolvent apprentice training group Carter & Carter is to be sold by administrators to Newcastle College, the Guardian reported on 22nd March.
The colleges principal, Jackie Fisher, told the paper the purchase was a "fantastic opportunity to create a strong employer-facing business drawing on the strengths of both organisations".
Combined turnover of the Newcastle College Group, which has some 35,000 students, is forecast at £150m a year with staffing levels set to grow to 3,400.
David Russell, national director of finance and resources of the Learning and Skills Council, told the Guardian's reporter that the LSC was working to meet the needs of an estimated 3,000 learners in those parts of Carter & Carter that remain unsold.
The group, operating under joint administrators from Deloitte, has the following subsidiaries:
