NEW DELHI: As part of productionising the just launched Chevy Tavera, General Motors India has started a third shift at its Halol facility in Gujarat.
According to the company more than 500 cars have been delivered so far since deliveries began on June 16.
GMIL has over 3,000 booking to be delivered over the next two months through to August.
The company has had to stop bookings beyond August due to production constraints despite the plant ramp up.
The Tavera, GMIL's big volume SUV launch, has received very good response from the market so far. the company backed up its price and product positioning with some service lollies like the 5 year/ 150,000 kms Introductory Warranty on its 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine. in an effort to keep the tavera price competitive, GM India achieved 85% local content on job one for the vehicle.
The company intends to touch 93% indigenisation by the end of 2004 to ensure lower prices and the ready availability of parts.
As part of its launch preparation GM India had upgraded and expanded its dealer network with most facilities adopting the state-of-the-art “3S” integrated facility norms. |
