MARANELLO, Italy Ferrari on Tuesday launched an intriguing photo exhibit at the Galleria Ferrari here designed to explore the "mysterious relationship" between "the world of Ferrari and the female universe."
Even though most of its clientele may be male, the Prancing Horse brand has held an allure for women.
The exhibit highlights such moments as Brigitte Bardot in a 250GT spider in the 1963 film The Contempt to Princess Liliana de Rethy, who boldly asked Enzo Ferrari to build a special version of the 250GT coupe in 1957. Sometimes, Ferrari acknowledges, the women who have been photographed in or near its cars have been little more than arm candy. The exhibit shows "powerful and independent women who have bought or driven Ferraris, or who have accompanied the most famous Ferrari drivers during their adventures," it said.
