| Mamma Mia: Fiat's "Design the Italian Way" Shows Off Future Concepts |
 |
TURIN, Italy The future look of Alfa Romeo should appeal to both style mavens and traditionalists. The Fiat brand will continue to look friendly and funky, while the Lancia brand may have a decidedly Asian influence, while retaining the signature Lancia curve on the side. Those are the impressions based on the winners in Fiat Group Style Center's "Design the Italian Way" competition, which culminated on Thursday with an awards presentation.
The competition included 200 students representing 12 nationalities. Jurors from automotive design, fashion, architecture and journalism selected six works from among 24 project finalists for the top honors.
It's little surprise that students from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Fiat's hometown grabbed the "Best Italian Design for the Fiat Brand" award. Top winners in the design competition for Alfa Romeo hailed from the National Institute of Design in India and the Istituto Europeo di Design. Winners in the Lancia competition came from Tokyo Communication Arts in Japan. Italian students also were named winners of the "Best Future Vision" award for their take on the Fiat Panda. Students from Italy's Politecnico di Milano, working with a Fiat Panda Splash, won the prize for the best innovative material use.
The students will now participate in a Fiat Group Automobiles program that gives them hands-on experience in the Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia studios.
