Chevrolet says its new Captiva 4x4 is the first of a new generation of models, with six new cars planned for launch over the next few years.
The Groove, Beat and Trax city cars from the recent New York Motor Show give three potential routes for a Matiz replacement. While the 4x4-inspired Trax concept car is the least likely option to be taken forward, Chevrolet is thought to be working on a small 4x4 to sit below the Captiva.

A compact MPV to succeed the Tacuma is highly likely. Other important launches are likely to include a new small family car range to replace the Lacetti and a new supermini to take over from the Kalos.
Chevrolet is also tipped to bring its 400bhp Camaro muscle car to the UK as a 'halo' model to attract buyers to the brand. A coupe could be on sale as early as 2009, and a convertible the following year.
All of the cars will shed Chevrolet's ties with Korean car maker Daewoo, whose products underpin much of the current range.
Instead, the majority of the newcomers will be co-developed with Vauxhall, which launches the Antara, based on the Captiva, this summer.
