New Delhi, (PTI): Passenger car exports declined by almost 9.5 per cent in April this year. According to figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, passenger car exports were 14,021 units compared with 15,497 units in the same month of the previous fiscal.
Hyundai Motor India was the biggest exporter with 11,341 units, up 4.6 per cent from the same month last year. Maruti Udyog’s exports grew 11.43 per cent at 1,667 units. Tata Motors overseas sales, however, declined by 11.38 per cent to 1,012 units from 1,142 units in the year-ago period.
In the two-wheelers segment, motorcycles fuelled the growth trend in the overseas market while scooter exports continued to dip during the month.
Bajaj Auto’s exports grew 66.5 per cent, despite a dip of 27 per cent in domestic sales. The company sold 37,810 units in April this year against 22,707 units in the same month last year.
Hero Honda exports fell 37.8 per cent to 5,733 units compared with 9,223 units in April 2006. Overall two-wheeler exports in the first month of this fiscal grew 20.94 per cent at 57,991 units against 47,950 units in April 2006.
Three-wheeler exports (including passenger and goods carriers) posted a 54.41 per cent growth at 14,326 units against 9,134 units in April 2006. Exports of commercial vehicles grew 39 per cent to 3,976 units.
