FEV's Dr. Stefan Pischinger Named SAE Fellow
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Stefan Pischinger, president and CEO of FEV Motorentechnik GmbH (FEV) of Aachen, Germany, has been named an SAE Fellow by SAE International. FEV is the parent of FEV Engine Technology, Inc. located in Auburn Hills, Mich.

The SAE Fellow designation is the highest grade of membership bestowed by SAE International. Pischinger will be formally recognized on April 17 at the Honors Convocation at the 2007 SAE World Congress held in Detroit.

Pischinger's Fellowship status was earned, according to SAE, through his "sustained and outstanding contribution to combustion and emissions control technology in gasoline spark ignition and diesel engines, exhaust catalytic emissions control, CNG engine development and fuel cell technology." He was also recognized for his leadership in international cooperative research, education and technical society activities.

The Fellowship program was established in 1975 and recognizes an average of only 20 recipients worldwide for the honor each year.

As head of FEV, Pischinger overseas a global enterprise with offices on two continents and 1,300 highly skilled research and development specialists. Founded in 1978 by Pischinger's father, Prof. Franz Pischinger, FEV has grown to an internationally-recognized leader in the design and development of internal combustion engines, and a major supplier of advanced testing and instrumentation products and services to most of the world's largest powertrain OEMs. More recently, FEV has gained attention for its work in the development of all types of hybrid powertrain systems, vehicle integration, and automotive electronics.

Pischinger began his career as a research assistant at the Sloan Automotive Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned his PhD. He then went on to Daimler-Benz (later Mercedes-Benz AG) where he served in a series of positions of increasing responsibility, eventually heading the company's renowned diesel engine development department. Upon leaving Mercedes, Pischinger joined FEV as executive vice president and was named president in 2003.

In addition to his responsibilities at FEV, Pischinger serves as the Director of the Institute for Combustion Engines at Aachen University of Technology, where he had earned a degree in mechanical engineering.
