Even as a section of workers is still protesting at Uttarpara unit of Hindustan Motors Ltd, the company management has ruled out plans to announce a closure or declare a lockout at the factory. This was categorically stated at a press conference here today by Ms Soni Shrivastav, General Manager, Corporate Communications, C.K. Birla Group of Companies.
Ms Shrivastav reiterated the company management's appeal to its workers issued on Wednesday and said the "management is keen on making Uttarpara a successful and viable industrial unit. In this pursuit, we will always be open to discussions with the registered trade unions once normalcy is restored."
Willing Employees
She said that, in his appeal to workers, the company's Executive Vice-President (Uttarpara), Mr Moloy Chowdhury, had requested workers to "remove terror threats and intimidation, allow willing employees to attend work and allow material to move without any interruption."
On Wednesday, the Calcutta High Court had issued an order to the authorities of Hooghly district to maintain law and order in and around the factory premises in Uttarpara.
Ms Soni said about 300-400 of the 4,000 workers employed at the Uttarpara plant were on agitation mode
