Tata Motors (Q, N,C,F)* is all set to drive into the commercial minivan market in India with a new commercial passenger carrier that will be based on Renault`s popular minivan Trafic`s platform.
The three-ton capacity carrier, which is expected to be rolled out by the second half of 2007, is being positioned as a mass transport commercial vehicle and will be used to plug the gap between two of its existing models, Ace and 407.
It is being said that Tata Motors has already started the development work on this new model, a brand for which is yet to be finalised. However Tata Motors sources declined to comment on the issue.
But according to sources, the new vehicle, tooling for which has been sourced from Renault of France will be offered in both petrol and CRDi diesel engine versions.
