Tata unit will come up only at Singur: CM
KOLKATA: West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and his party are least bothered about Trinamool Congress threatening the Tatas to shift the venue for their small car manufacturing project from Singur in Hooghly district.

In an interview given to the party mouthpiece Ganashakti, Mr Bhattachrjee has said that the small car unit will come up only at Singur and no where else. “The Tatas will set up their factory at Singur. Our government has almost finished the process of land acquisition and land will be given to the Tatas soon,” Mr Bhattacharjee was quoted as having said.

The chief minister has also justified acquisition of land at Singur and said that the government had considered the need of the investor (Tata Motors) favourably.

“Every investor has some requirement, some priority. This is a common practice everywhere and investors do attach priorities to certain key issues, before deciding to make any big investment. The Tatas has selected Singur because of its proximity to Kolkata and connectivity with adjoining states. Our government has agreed to their proposal, because once the factory is set up it will benefit West Bengal’s economy and offer employment to many,” the chief minister said.

Mr Bhattacharjee refused to say anything directly about the threat issued by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Sunday. “Less said about the opposition party, the better,” Mr Bhattacharjee told the party mouthpiece.
