| DENSO and Bosch to set up JV to develop and manufacture diesel particulate filters |

DENSO Corporation and Robert Bosch GmbH have agreed to set up a 50/50 joint venture in eastern Europe to develop and manufacture diesel particulate filters, starting early next year. From 2009 onward, the partners plan to manufacture diesel particulate filters (DPFs) made of cordierite and to market them separately. As a result of the Euro 5 emission standard for cars, DENSO and Bosch expect that particulate filters will become standard equipment for all new diesel-powered cars in Europe.
The two firms say that cordierite DPFs are lighter and provide a lower exhaust gas pressure drop than units made of other materials. DENSO has been producing and supplying its own cordierite DPFs since 2003.
The agreement to form a joint venture is subject to approval by the EU competition authorities.
