Ashok Leyland (Q, N,C,F)* and Bosch, a leading global auto components supplier, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M), to set up Ashok Leyland and Bosch Centre of Excellence in Engineering Design at the IIT-M campus, reports Business Standard.
The MoU was signed by R Seshasayee, managing director, Ashok Leyland, M S Ananth, director, IIT-M and Albert Hieronimus, managing director, Motor Industries Company, a flagship company of Germany-based Bosch group in India.
According to sources, under the agreement, Ashok Leyland and Bosch will contribute about Rs 40 million each for the engineering design programme offered by the department of engineering design, formed recently by IIT-M.
IIT-M`s engineering design programme is a dual-degree programme in engineering design; B-Tech in engineering design and M-Tech with specialisation in automotive engineering. The department is to offer MS and PhD programmes from January 2007.
The engineers of Ashok Leyland and Bosch will be trained by IIT-M and candidates meeting the admission norms will be admitted to MS and PhD programmes. This is intended mainly to boost the research and development activities in the two companies.
The 55,000 sq ft Ashok Leyland and Bosch Centre of Excellence in Engineering Design will house the department of engineering design of IIT. The centre will be equipped with a graphics art studio, computer-aided engineering centre and laboratories for product design, ergonomics, mechatronics, controls and vehicle dynamics.
