| Make That Five: UGS PLM Technology Helps Joe Gibbs Racing and Rookie Driver Denny Hamlin Win the Pennsylvania 500 to Sweep the Two Pocono Races |
 |
PLANO, Texas, PRNewswire/ -- UGS Corp., a leading provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) products and services, today announced UGS- sponsored rookie driver Denny Hamlin and Joe Gibbs Racing -- whose cars are developed with the help of UGS(R) PLM technology -- added the Pennsylvania 500 win to his Pocono 500 win on June 11, to sweep the two NASCAR(R) Nextel Cup Series races this year at Pocono Raceway. This win marks the fifth consecutive win by UGS sponsored racing teams.
Earlier this year Hamlin won the Budweiser Shootout, the traditional kickoff to the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season, held the week before the Daytona 500. The field for the 70-lap non-point race consists of all of the pole winners from the previous season as well as past winners of this race. Hamlin became the first rookie to win the Budweiser Shootout in its 28-year history.
UGS last week announced that Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon, and Joe Gibbs Racing Driver Tony Stewart combined to win the previous four NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series races.
"UGS congratulates Joe Gibbs Racing and driver Denny Hamlin on the win and the sweep at Pocono Raceway, we wish the teams good luck as the Chase for the Championship nears," said Dave Shirk, executive vice president of Global Marketing for UGS. "We are proud of our relationship with the racing teams and along with our customers are pleased to know that our solutions help the teams deliver wins to continue to stay on top of the pack and go for the championship."
A Tradition of Technology and Tracks
UGS has a long tradition providing NX(TM) software, UGS' comprehensive digital product development solution, and Teamcenter(R) software, UGS' digital lifecycle management solution and the world's most widely used PLM portfolio, through racing sponsorships. Joe Gibbs Racing, winner of the 2005 NASCAR(R) NEXTEL Cup Championship, Hendrick Motorsports (participant in the NASCAR(R) NEXTEL Cup Series) and Andretti Green Racing, winner of the Indy Racing League(R) (IRL) IndyCar(R) Series Championship two years running, have been using UGS software for several years to help develop their cars and improve their performance on the race track. KB Racing, winner of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Pro Stock Championship for three straight years, began using UGS technology in 2005, and the Renault F1 Team, winner of the 2005 Formula One Drivers and Constructors Championships, established a partnership in 2004 using Tecnomatix(TM) software, UGS' best-in-class digital manufacturing solution.
