Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd, China’s first carmaker to open a foreign assembly plant, plans to begin sales in the US by late 2008 with a small car, the company’s US operations chief said.
The carmaker is doing safety and emission tests in the US on its 7151 CK, said John Harmer, 71, vice president and chief operating officer of its US unit.
“We’re being extremely cautious in this process to ensure that we have a product that meets all regulatory requirements and has the right level of quality,” said Harmer, a Salt Lake City lawyer who said he has done work for Chinese companies.
“We are convinced that we will be able present to the US consumer a high-quality sedan for under US$10,000 (US$1 = RM3.78).” — Bloomberg
