Rolls-Royce sets up India subsidiary
Rolls-Royce group plc, leading global provider of power systems and services, said on Friday it has set up a wholly-owned subsidiary in India to manage the growing volume of engineering work that it is sub-contracting.

Based here, Rolls-Royce Operations India Pvt Ltd (RROIPL) would help the group meet the need for greater engineering capacity over a range of its new programmes and leverage on capability in India to develop aero-engineering solutions.

RROIPL would direct engineering work packages to Quality Engineering and Software Technologies (QuEST), city-based leading global product development solutions provider, Rolls-Royce Chief Executive Sir John Rose told reporters.

QuEST would double the headcount of locally employed engineers to 200 in the next 12 months and invest two million USD to support Rolls-Royce, company President Aravind Melligeri said.

A Rolls-Royce centre was set up in QuEST's Bangalore facilities in March this year and it became fully operational as Rolls-Royce Operations India Limited in October.

Rolls-Royce, which operates globally in the civil aerospace, defence aerospace, marine and energy markets, considered India "very important" in all the sectors it was active in, Rose said.

He said they had particular interest in Indian Navy, vessel design and propulsion and the growing offshore activities. Indian market offered opportunities in "every single area in which we are active."
