| Nanjing Automobile in talks with potential Longbridge joint venture partners |
 |
Nanjing is in talks with partners about restarting production at Britain's mothballed MG Rover car plant, according to a Nanjing executive quoted by today's Financial Times.
Wang Qiujing, head of the company's British operations, told the FT that Nanjing Automobile is talking to at least three partners and is open to further approaches and hoped for a British manufacturing joint venture, based on Nanjing providing Chinese-made components for UK assembly, access to the Chinese market for built-up vehicle sales, and shared development costs.
He said the size of Nanjing's stake in any partnership was negotiable, and it would not insist on a majority holding. However, it was not willing to sell the business it had acquired from MG Rover's administrators.
