Specifications for Lotus's long-awaited track-only 'Circuit Car' prototype have been revealed - just ahead of its debut at the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb this weekend.
The supercharged 1.8-litre VVT Toyota engine allows the single-seater car (with a two seat option) to reach 100mph in just 9.0 seconds, while a prototype traction control system helps keep it on track.
A small frontal area is combined with flat sides without air intakes for minimal drag, and a large rear wing and diffuser to attain maximum aerodynamic downforce.
The car, based on the Lotus Elise body, weighs in at around 650kg and the lightweight GRP bodywork is bolted to the chassis for easy removal for maintenance and race preparation.
The 'Circuit Car' will go on sale by mid-2006 in batches of 100 a year. Prices are yet to be confirmed, but expect production versions in the UK to start at around £25,000 for the 190bhp version.
